India's Under-The-Radar Hotspot
Despite a name change, Bengaluru, formerly known as Bangalore, has joined the likes of Mumbai and Chennai as an iconic India destination. Karnataka’s capital city boasts a handful of nicknames including India’s “Garden City”, “Silicon Valley”, and “Rock/Metal Capital.” Curious? With labels like those we felt obligated to take a trip. Our digs at Fortune Select JP Cosmos Hotel placed us in the heart of the town and we now know why more than 8 million people call Bengaluru home.
After filling up on the hotel’s well-known breakfast buffet, the area’s perfect climate will have you itching to explore. We were immediately drawn to the Bangalore Palace where Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, and Metallica have graced the grounds for shows. Pro-tip: Don’t worry about going inside, the Instagram-friendly exterior is what you came to see (#architecture). While there are numerous botanical gardens to choose from for your next stop, the famous bi-annual flower shows and iconic glasshouse at Lalbagh validate the “Garden City” label tenfold. Cricket is a rite of passage in India, and Bengaluru is home to one of the world’s most renowned stadiums and frequent World Cup host, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. After taking in the excitement of an Indian Premier League match, we hit Shri Sagar for dosas (an Indian staple similar to a crepe) before experiencing the local nightlife that has earned Bengaluru yet another nickname, “Pub Capital of India.” Following our short stay (topped off with a nightcap at the poolside bar), it’s safe to say the city lives up to its many billings, and the centrally located Fortune Select JP Cosmos Hotel is the best place to get intimate with India.
