A love letter to the Royalton Park Avenue New York

Thu Aug 14 2025 20:09:59 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time) by Edward B

A love letter to the Royalton Park Avenue New York For eight glorious summers, my daughter Cara and I have ended our USA trip with a few magical days at the Royalton Park Avenue—and honestly, it’s the highlight of our year. If they piped in “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” as you walked through the doors, it would feel perfectly fitting. That’s the kind of joy this hotel brings. This year, our visit will mean even more. I faced a serious health issue over the past year—thankfully now recovered—and it’s made me reflect on how fleeting life can be. Growing up, a place like the Royalton was something I could only dream about. To now be able to share this experience with my daughter, year after year, is something we never take for granted. It’s not just a treat—it’s a celebration of life, of resilience, and of the bond we share. Wish sometimes we could keep this secret to ourselves but thats not possible. And here’s the thing: it’s not super expensive at all. For the location, the quality, the rooftop pool, and the overall experience, it’s exceptional value for money. You get boutique luxury without the eye-watering price tag—and that’s rare in Manhattan. Prior to discovering the Royalton I have stayed in other excellent hotels in NYC but the Royalton just has "IT" , what ever "IT" is. From the moment you arrive, the doormen greet you like old friends—warm, helpful, and full of local tips. Louis and the team are always ready with a smile, whether you’re arriving with luggage or just popping out for a coffee. It’s the kind of welcome that makes you feel like you belong. The rooms are spacious and stylish, with a boutique vibe that’s pure New York sophistication. Immaculately clean, with plush bedding and sleek bathrooms, they’re perfect for relaxing after a day in the city—or getting glammed up for a Broadway show. But the real crown jewel? The rooftop pool and terrace. Early morning swims with the skyline as your backdrop, chatting with the staff as they prep for the day—it’s a peaceful, grounding experience in the heart of Manhattan. By afternoon, the rooftop transforms into a lively social hub with cocktails, and music. There’s even a second rooftop bar above the pool—perfect for sunset drinks i think It only opened last year and we only got to experience it once. 🍽️ Dining Delights & Local Gems The Ivy Room (inside the hotel) is a must-visit. It’s a chic rooftop restaurant serving elevated American fare with a twist—think short rib garganelli, sea bass with clam cream, and a knockout burger. ( No im not getting paid for this review lol) 😁 On Sundays, don’t miss the Bottomless Jazz Brunch. Live jazz, mimosas, and dishes like ricotta pancakes and hanger steak & eggs—it’s pure indulgence with skyline views and a yellow baby grand piano setting the mood. Just steps away: Duane Reade Pharmacy (401 Park Ave S) is super handy for essentials, snacks, or forgotten toiletries. One block up on 30th Street is a fantastic Thai restaurant—Sabai Thai. The green curry is delicious but packs a punch. I learned the hard way (cue Cara laughing as I sweated through it). Across the road and a few streets up is a famous sandwich shop—Bagels & Schmear. Their lox and cream cheese bagel is a NYC classic. 🚇 Getting Around Made Easy The subway is just two blocks away, and we use it every trip. It’s the gateway to: Chinatown: vibrant markets, dim sum, and cultural charm. We alway go to a place full of the chinese locals and by god that always works out and tends to be pretty inexpensive and incredibly good food Little Italy: cobblestone streets, cannoli, and old-world Italian flair. tho little italy is so much smaller than it used to be and now seems to jsut encompass mulberry street Pier 57: at the southern tip of Manhattan, it’s a stunning waterfront park with food vendors and views of the Hudson River. Grab a weekly MetroCard if you’re staying a few days—it’s the best way to explore the city and cheapest. 💡 Tips for Fellow Travelers Book early—especially in summer, this gem fills up fast. Request a city-view room—the skyline is breathtaking. Try the rooftop bar—even if you’re not swimming. Use the concierge—they’re brilliant for restaurant bookings and insider tips. Explore the neighborhood—NoMad is full of hidden gems. Don’t be put off by the boutique vibe—this hotel is welcoming, warm, and worth every penny. The Royalton Park Avenue isn’t just a hotel—it’s a tradition, a sanctuary, and a place that makes New York feel like home. In fact its our home when we visit NYC . Cara and I wouldn’t dream of staying anywhere else. This year, more than ever, we’ll be soaking up every moment. Counting down the days until we’re back. Warmest wishes, Edward & Cara Bell ( forgive any typos please as I have a bit of dyslexia)
