Dining

The Hotel Waldhaus Sils is renowned for the quality of its cuisine. All of its restaurants and bars put an emphasis on local food, with many ingredients sourced from Engadine valley — and some from the hotel's own gardens.

Hotel Waldhaus Sils Dining

Waldhaus Dining Rooms – With high ceilings, original 1908 chairs, and a spectacular 1959 chandelier, everything about this signature dining space is special. Chef Gero Porstein creates a menu to match, with Alpine and Italian-influenced dishes such as ragout of beef, and mousse of fresh cheese with mountain herbs. The 20,000-bottle cellar includes thousands of Swiss wines, and regular theme nights and live music add to the lively atmosphere.

Chef’s Table – Join an exclusive dinner for up to 12 guests in the impressive kitchen. The gourmet meal is preceded by a cellar visit to select and taste suitable wines.

Arvenstube – Natural pine walls and carved wooden chandeliers give this restaurant a thoroughly Swiss feel, and the menu showcases regional specialties such as cream of Val Fex mountain hay soup and pan-fried Swiss river trout.

Terrace – On summer days, there is no better place than this sunny terrace surrounded by larch trees. Choose perfectly cooked dishes from the outdoor grill for lunch, or high tea and ice cream in the afternoon.

Great Lounge and Bar – Enjoy morning coffee or early evening cocktails in this elegant space at the heart of the hotel, with a huge bay window overlooking the forest. Pastries and light lunches are available, and the Waldhaus Trio plays every afternoon and evening.

Applies to Simple Single standard rooms

-->>> This review is for those interested in booking Small Single rooms. This hotel is a gem, and has many wonderful rooms full of history and charm. However, I was deeply disappointed by the room that I got. On paper (=email), I booked a traditional room with a view on the Sils lake to be able to watch the sunset (following Tripadvisor reviewers' tips), for which I paid an extra fee. Oh boy when I entered room 187, I was met with Ibis/airport hotel style design!!! The view was there, yes, but I could have had that view in other hotels of Sils. I expressed my concern to the reservation staff, since I had a confirmation for a tradition single +lake view room. They pointed out that the hotel does not have Small Single traditional rooms with the Sils lake view. That's understandable, but they should have informed me about it in the booking confirmation. They did show me another room, traditional, which has a view on the opposite side (thus no sunset). I tried to upgrade my room to another option with Sils lake view (ready to pay for it), but the staff wasn't really helpful (maybe a bit junior). I was truly disappointed to spend the last day of my trip in such a unique setting and end up in such a room. Other than that, the hotel has a wonderful atmosphere and a wellness spa that reminded me of Turrell's art pieces. It is definitely worth visiting. I care for hotels like these, with unique character and authenticity. This is my humble attempt to encourage the Waldhaus to keep investing in being authentic to themselves, because I am a client who cares about preserving this kind of hotels, in a world full of airport-style stays.

Daniela brought me oat milk for my morning coffee daily and made a special tea of lemon and ginger for a sudden sore throat. My friend is celiac, and they brought her gluten free bread every day! So spectacular! They have a music room where you can play old vinyl records. Love this place!!!

Beautiful. From the rooms to the service to the overall hospitality. Enjoyed our stay immensely. The lunch and dinner menu had many wonderful items but my favorite was the tea in the afternoon. It was one of the most relaxing, wonderful stays away from home in a long time. Will definitely be back for more.

Outstanding in every way

I recently spent two nights at the Hotel Waldhaus and couldn’t be happier. The facility is gorgeous and thoughtfully maintained. They have done an amazing job integrating modern amenities into the historic soul of the property without missing a beat. And of course the hotel is situated in what is one of the most, if not most, beautiful places I have ever visited. The hotel retains all of the grand charm that has drawn discerning travelers for 115 years but it’s the world class hospitality that impressed me most. The hotel owners greeted me when I arrived and every member of the staff had my name memorized immediately. I was particularly happy to be picked up in Sils, late in the day and tired after hiking, by the hotel shuttle driver who greeted me kindly by name. I checked out on July 4, my birthday, and received happy birthday greetings from Patrick, one of the owners, and a special cake to take with me to my next destination. Bravo Hotel Waldhaus for an unforgettable stay!

Overall positive experience

Tue Oct 18 2022 02:59:32 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time) by Swmy n

I had a 3-night stay in the Waldhaus Sils in early October, which I enjoyed. The public areas in this historic heritage hotel are lovely, the breakfasts were some of the best I had during my 2 weeks in Switzerland, and I appreciated the beautiful and free sauna for hotel guests (closed by 8pm, however). It was an added bonus to get a free shuttle to St. Moritz train station on check out. However my stay was not an unqualified success, as there were several areas which could be improved. My first impression of the room was not great – spartan attic room on the 4th floor with bare white walls, I wonder why there are no paintings or decoration at all? There was also a lack of information in English in the hotel room, indicating somewhat a lack of personalized service as all my communication with the hotel had been in English. The folder in the hotel room with information about wifi, check out times, the spa, history of the hotel etc. was in German. The wait staff were very busy at breakfast and did not explain about cooked items that I could order, until I asked one of them where the eggs were! The menu later given to me was in German, despite my speaking to the wait staff in English, and it was yet some time later again before an English menu was given to me. Once I understood the English menu, I was delighted to discover I could order eggs in various forms, even eggs benedict, pancakes etc… There was an unfortunate CHF 8.50 charged for water at dinner one night – which I only discovered upon billing at check out. I was not informed during the dinner about this charge, and am frankly surprised as the hotel provides free still and sparkling water to guests staying in the hotel, and I was in an area of the restaurant for in-house guests taking half-board. The location up on the hill has its pros and cons – it was rather tiring to climb up that hill especially on arrival dragging luggage, I would strongly recommend contacting the hotel to fetch you and your luggage up. On the other hand, I did enjoy the view from my hotel room overlooking the trees and Sils Baselgia.
