Just off the coast of Western Africa lies a chain of Spanish islands where hospitality has reigned for hundreds of years. Hotel Hacienda de Abajo, on the Canary Island of La Palma, is one of the archipelago’s most historic sugar plantation estates where that same Old World welcome still mingles with modern amenities and priceless art. Hosting travelers since the 1700s, the original Hacienda building of the estate welcomes guests through massive antique doors into a realm of 32 individually decorated guestrooms spread throughout four buildings surrounding a lushly landscaped courtyard. Guests of the Hotel will not only enjoy island breezes and volcanic views but they can also:
As an adults-only resort, romantic couples, solo travelers, and groups will love the quiet of the resort’s sparkling pool, the comfort of the property’s beautiful accommodations, and the stunning location overlooking the sea with a backdrop of forested mountains.
Whether you want a quick snack and drink poolside, an elaborate buffet breakfast, or a multi-course Canary Island-focused tasting menu, you’ll find a Hotel Hacienda dish to surprise and delight.
With a full-service spa at the Bathhouse, a secluded palm-shaded pool, a mouth-watering restaurant, and stunning grounds, you wouldn’t be blamed for not wanting to leave Hotel Hacienda de Abajo. Pamper yourself with massages and water rituals at the spa, and enjoy a round of yoga or a dip in the hot. Wander the gardens and admire the crystal clear sky at night. Relax in your room and admire the artistic craftsmanship that went into every detail.
Outside the hotel, spend your time exploring the natural beauty and cultural heritage of La Palma island. Test your taste buds at a wine tasting or earn your sea legs on a boat trip to view pirate caves and whales. Journey back in time at the local archaeological museum. Be wowed by the importance of a single fruit at the Banana Museum. Or head out to the countryside for a refreshing walk through nature.
Explore beautiful beaches, national parks, volcanic hikes, natural pools, saltworks, waterfalls and more. For additional suggestions or to arrange tours, the resort’s front desk and concierge are always on hand to help.
Hotel Hacienda de Abajo is set on the western side of La Palma island in Spain’s Canary Islands archipelago just off the coast of Africa. Surrounded by a landscape of lush vegetation edging a pristine coastline, La Palma features a warm, sunny climate with calm, clear nights.

Well if you want to feel like you are in paradise this is the place to go! The hotel is nestled in between banana plantations so you immediately feel like you are in a secluded oasis. The hotel is so, so interesting, it is full of artwork from the 17th and 18th century, it has numerous cozy little nooks and crannies and the walk to the swimming pool is like walking through a tropical forest but it’s the staff that really put the icing on the cake. Every single member of staff is so cheerful and helpful. They treat you like a princess/prince throughout your stay. There are also numerous thoughtful gestures during your stay such as; complimentary glass of champagne on arrival, small gifts delivered to your room, remembering your likes/dislikes etc. Just cannot fault the place. An extremely memorable stay.

We decided to take a trip from Tenerife to La Palma. See this vulcanic island. So we looked up a nice place to stay. Hotel Hacienda De Abajo was highly recommended and it stood up for everything. Nice accommodation, friendly staff and a lovely garden and facilities. The restaurant is one of the best on the island. So we were very satisfied and happy. We will be back.
