Recognized in 2020 as #7 among ‘Top 30 Hotels in Africa’ by Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards, this boutique charmer is set on an expanse of white-sand beach in the Cape Town suburb of Kommetjie. With terraces that face the white-capped waters, a pale blue and green color scheme, and a location right on the sandy shores of Long Beach, Last Word is the perfect place to relax and connect with nature. Sip fine South African wine by the pool and delight in chef-prepared meals on your breezy balcony. The hotel’s courteous and attentive service only makes your stay more exquisite.
On the scenic Cape Peninsula, Last Word Long Beach is within easy driving distance of the False Bay penguin colonies and famous Chapman’s Peak coastal drive. Here, you are approximately an hour from Cape Town, where you can explore the city’s booming culinary scene and provocative museums such as the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary African Art and District Six.
The six guestrooms and suites reflect the rhythms and the colors of the sea. White furniture with splashes of pale blues and greens create a sense of repose and private patios open up to salt-scented breezes and shore views. Upgrade to one of the two spacious Elegant Suites, located on the upper level, for elevated vantage points on more amply-sized terraces. Other comfortable touches: plush velour robes and a port decanter, underfloor heating in the bathrooms, and high-thread-count sheets that are an alluring invitation for a restful sleep.
As local experts, the staff know the surrounding area inside out so they can propose points of interest, from local watering holes to nature treks. If you are driving, the hotel has off-street parking and 24-hour security. There is always a staff member at your disposal for recommendations on a sunrise hike or for a VIP welcome if you arrive after dark.
Last Word Long Beach delivers on its philosophy of personalized service by providing made-to-order meals that you can enjoy on your own schedule. Choose from a hot breakfast menu of eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, and more served alongside fresh fruit, muesli, and yogurt. If you don’t feel like leaving your suite, the staff can arrange breakfast in bed.
The location of Last Word Long Beach promotes a languid schedule of soaking up summer sunshine by the pool or leisurely walks down Long Beach, which you can access directly from the hotel. Gaze out over the Atlantic Ocean from your private patio with a chilled glass of local Chardonnay and in-room snacks of biltong or dried mango, or decompress with an in-room massage to the meditative sound of ocean waves.
Head down to Cape Point, where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet, or take a trip to Boulders Beach to watch the resident colony of African penguins emerging from the water and waddling around the beach. Take one of the most scenic roads in the world, the coastal Chapman’s Peak Drive, known locally as Chappies, north to Hout Bay. The reward at the end of the journey is the best and freshest fish and chips in Cape Town at Mariner’s Wharf or Fish on the Rocks.
A sleepy seaside suburb of Cape Town, Kommetjie, the location of Last Word Long Beach, is blissfully removed from city life. The hotel overlooks the five-mile Long Beach, popular for surfing and coastal walks. From here, it is 15 minutes to the more animated Noordhoek and 40 minutes to Cape Point, on the tip of the Cape Peninsula. The center of Cape Town is around a 40-minute drive away.

From the minute we arrived at the Last Word we knew we were in for a treat! The location is breathtaking and the welcome incredibly special, which set the tone for our two day stay. Our super luxury comfy room faced the ocean and the bold and beautiful decor, was both inviting and exciting. Meal times were the best as the food was delicious, wines sublime and service impeccable. Brandin and the team could not be more helpful and I can't honestly say that we had an amazing getaway. I highly recommend the Last Word Long Beach if you want to get away from it all and be spoilt rotten.

Our two night stay was spectacular from the moment we walked in the door. The service from everyone we dealt with was friendly, professional and they all seemed so happy. The attention to detail in the decor, and special touches (like a Mothers day gift and the room turndown) was unbelievable. The meals were so delicious and flavours perfectly balanced. You cannot beat the setting and views.
