With just seven suites and guestrooms, this boutique gem is a graceful and leafy haven nestled within the oldest wine valley in South Africa. Situated between Cape Town and rolling vineyards, it is the perfect pastoral escape within close proximity to the city. Sample local wine around the solar-heated pool, surrounded by lush gardens, or bask in the morning sunshine on your private patio. Breakfast is served in the light-flooded conservatory; enjoy a picnic lunch in the garden; and make a dinner reservation at one of Cape Town’s many award-winning restaurants.
From Last Word Constantia, much of what to see and do in Cape Town is within easy reach. Plan ahead to book a table at the famous Test Kitchen, one of the best restaurants in South Africa. Admire the blooming flowers in the Kirstenbosch Gardens, an access point to hiking trails that ascend Table Mountain. Catch some rays at popular Clifton Fourth Beach, go stand-up paddle boarding at Bloubergstrand, and watch the African penguins putter around on Boulders Beach.
The seven, breezy guestrooms and suites resemble a country cottage, with floral patterns, a pastel color palette, and cream carpets, while candelabras and marble bathrooms with heated floors add a touch of opulence. Suites have their distinct sets of extras: the two-bedroom Family Suite has a game room with a Nintendo Wii; the Pool Suites have private gardens and pools; and the Elegant Suites feature an open-plan double shower adorned with mosaics.
Graze on snacks on your patio, sip your tea curled up on an overstuffed couch, and savor a glass of port before bedtime — a bed with 300-thread-count sheets awaits.
Explore Cape Town under the guidance of the hotel’s expert team of travel planners, who can secure dinner reservations, book guided tours of Cape Town, and arrange chauffeur services to whisk you to heritage farms and white-gabled wineries. If you are hiring a car, there’s secure off-street parking and 24-hour security.
Breakfast is hosted in the conservatory overlooking the gardens, where you can request your choice of hot breakfast served alongside fresh fruit, granola, yogurt, and pastries. When it comes to lunch and dinner, Cape Town and Constantia are brimming with superb restaurants. The hotel can also pack a picnic basket lunch for you to take on your outings.
On a sunny afternoon, swing by the hotel’s bar and pop open a bottle of South Africa’s variety of sparkling wine, Méthode Cap Classique (MCC). Sip on the flutes of bubbly while lounging around the solar-heated pool framed by leafy greenery. Then retreat to your suite for an in-room massage.
Explore the wineries of the Constantia Valley, starting with Groot Constantia, founded in 1685. Learn all about the rich history of this region, and end with a leisurely lunch on the terrace of Constantia Glen, a boutique wine estate with sweeping mountain and valley views. The following morning, hike to the summit of the imposing Table Mountain or explore the port city of Cape Town: Robben Island, District Six Museum, Zeitz Museum of Contemporary African Art, and a road trip from the Cape Peninsula to Cape Point are just a handful of the top things to do.
Situated in the Western Cape’s oldest wine valley, Last Word Constantia is in one of Cape Town’s most exclusive neighborhoods, just outside the City Bowl, and less than 30 minutes from the airport.

Kim & her team, incluing Charmaine who bakes the amazing afternoon cakes and treats for your room, set the bar for the best Boutique stay in any guest house we have had. Spacious comfortable rooms, lovely Pool and gardens to relax after exploring local gardens and hiking Constantia Nek. To be offered a cup of tea and a slice of cake whilst relaxing was heaven. We would go out of our way to ensure we stayed here again. Thank you to all of you

Well, we expected great things and our experience was even better. From the moment you step into the resort you are treated like royalty. The staff are absolutely first class, the accommodation and pool is fantastic and the breakfast is totally fabulous. Wonderful touches like complimentary local wines make this a “must stay”. 11/10. Wonderful 5 days of luxury.

The hotel is located in the upmarket suburb of Constantia some way from the centre of Cape Town. We were advised against walking round the area and without a car, it can feel rather isolated. The hotel is a beautiful – the décor in the public areas and our room was bright and welcoming. I didn’t want to move from the comfortable sofas in the lounge area! The pool area and gardens are simply stunning. We had a pool suite which was large and well-appointed with everything you would expect from a boutique hotel. Unfortunately the air-conditioning unit was above the bed and despite adjusting the angle of the vents and speed, we felt as if we were sleeping in draught and slept with the windows open instead. Our private terrace was rather drab and the pool water murky compared to the main area by the swimming pool and gardens so we preferred to spend our time there. If I stayed again, I wouldn’t choose a pool suite. Breakfasts are huge with a wide choice of cold and hot food. The hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant but is adjacent to Peddlars on the Bend Restaurant, a popular local restaurant and bar. We ate there each night and the service and food was good. They will deliver their food to the hotel but we liked the buzz of the restaurant. Just a word of caution, we had mild tummy trouble as did a couple of other guests. I mentioned this to friends who come from Cape Town and they said, whenever they head back they use bottled water to clean their teeth, wash fruit, and avoid salads. We’ll know next time! The staff were really friendly and the service provided by the hotel is superb – tea and drinks by the pool or in our room were no problem. A special thank you to Kim who welcomed us on our early arrival and showed us to showers so we could freshen up after a long flight before arranging transport to the Kirstenbosch Garden. After we had checked out I discovered I had lost some jewellery. Luckily a member of staff had found it, handed it in and Kim arranged for it to be couriered back to me in the UK. I was so impressed by this and the hotel in general, that we have booked to stay at their sister hotel in Long Beach at the end of the year!

Superb service in a beautiful setting. Big rooms with lovely bathrooms and great amenities including free soft drinks. Wonderful breakfast with superb ingredients. But the best part of the hotel is the staff who cannot do enough for the guests.

My wife and I took up a later offer on Booking.com of a two day stay at the Last Word, which is really a lovely nine bedroomed Hotel in Constantia. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room which was a suite was really lovely and the breakfast was exceptional. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and really could not have done more for us. If we are ever in the area again, we will make sure to come back.
