So far I am completely unimpressed. We alerted the hotel that we were arriving around 1pm. Check in is listed as 4pm but as is customary with every hotel I’ve ever stayed in, the hotel attempts to make the room available as needed. I understood we couldn’t get in at 1. I even understood that 3 may not be possible. But by 3:30 our 2 bedroom suite still wasn’t available. I am writing this now from one side of the “two bedroom suite” (which is just a one bedroom suite and an adjoining room). I still don’t have access to the other side and it is now 4:08pm. They were quick to take my credit card when I arrived but apparently not so quick to give us the room we paid for. They also seemed to think I was being unreasonable. The manager kept saying that check in wasn’t until 4pm but neglected to acknowledge that other guests were somehow managing to get checked in earlier. I obviously won’t stay again. Such a shame.

Beautiful hotel. We were in the east tower with a balcony. Room was spacious and well appointed. Bathroom was great. Service was absolutely amazing, especially at the pool. The pool area is not huge but it is very civilized compared to other resorts and very well run - shout out to Manuel! (Loved seeing the sandy spring-breakers quickly removed). 1919 Restaurant is pricey but a Michelin star experience. The only knocks were: balcony was over the STK restaurant and its exhaust goes straight up; street noise could still be heard on the 4th floor. Regardless, we would stay there again.

We were in an ocean front suite, so the view was outstanding. The staff, room location, layout, and the cleanliness of the hotel were all excellent. We liked the bed, coffee maker. The bathroom and toilet area are beautiful and well maintained. Sorry, but the Cons: Bureau drawers are very shallow. The ice machine was constantly defrosting and melting the ice, making new ice all through the nights. We had to close the bedroom door to not hear the clunking of ice cubes dropping. (We let the staff know but it wasn't resolved.) The TVs came on randomly and showed the hotel info screen and played music. (We notified the staff but nothing was done about it. I ended up unplugging the HDMI cable when we weren't watching TV. Turning the sound off didn't solve the problem because the volume was turned back on when the TVs came back on.) The wooden chairs do not have sliders on the feet to prevent noise when moving them on the tiled floors. You could here the chairs moving from the room above.) There was no counter in bathroom where you can put cosmetics - they just slide into the sink. The lighting in bathroom is dim and so is makeup mirror, so it was difficult to see when applying makeup. The positioning of the overhead shower handle was against the back wall. You end up getting soaked with cold water when turning it on. For the money, we will try somewhere else next time.

The room was tired. A bureau had a drawer that wouldn’t stay shut. The elevators didn’t work. The exit doorway stuck and wouldn’t open. The water pressure in the sink was inadequate. Apparently I need to write more so let me say the price was luxury but the room wasn’t. The pools were lovely.

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful 5-day trip to the Condado Vanderbilt. We didn’t have time for an extended trip but we were looking for an easy, luxurious, relaxed getaway in Puerto Rico, and that’s exactly what we got. It was a quick trip from the San Juan airport, convenient to Old San Juan, and the Condado area was very nice. With all of that in mind, I thought the hotel, although not cheap by any means, was a really good value. The hotel itself is lovely and our room was very comfortable and spacious with an amazing view, but the best parts were the service and the amenities. All the employees we encountered were super friendly, and the pools were wonderful. We tried every restaurant at the hotel as well as room service, and we had excellent service and delicious food every time. The food was pricey but worth it for convenience and quality. If you’re looking to lay on the beach, this may not be the best place for you. There is a pretty little beach with full service, but it was a bit crowded and swimming is strongly discouraged due to rip tides. We preferred just gazing at the ocean from our balcony, the infinity pool, the sun deck, or the lobby. I recommend the Condado Vanderbilt for a great getaway!
