In a personal/professional setting, the Sommero met all expectations: discretion, service, quality of food, our room... everything was perfect.

We stayed for a long weekend and had a blast. Located next to the Nobel institute, and the Palace Park, it is set in one of the most lovely neighborhoods in the city, and near the waterfront dining district. Overall, the hotel was a success as an upscale amenity filled retreat. Our basic double room was spacious enough, with a large King bed, had a nespresso type coffee maker, a big tv, and pretty views. The bathroom lacked counter space, but otherwise had everything we needed, including heated floors and byredo products. We found the lighting system unintuitive, and many sets of light turn on whenever engaging a single lamp. Definitely jarring during middle of the night bathroom runs. We loved the breakfast- very complete with high quality ingredients. The basement gym, pool and sauna are among the best you’ll find anywhere, with all of the art deco murals and relief sculptures decorating the old bath house. I was surprised sauna was not complementary and the charge $15 for a visit. Seems petty when rooms are so expensive. It was cheap enough to not matter but felt weird and unnecessary. Still, just little irritations during a great visit. The weekend highlight was drinks in the bar on Sat night, with a great band playing in a gorgeous room packed with international tourists and a local olso crowd decked out for a fun evening. Best people watching in Scandinavia.

They never used more money on a Oslo hotel before. In a historic building with many restrictions. The property oozes quality. Its a very nice hotel, but personally i prefere a lighter & more modern style. Service a bit formal in the hotel. Breakfast 4/5. Location just behind the castle.

Didn’t like it. Horrid experience. Impersonal. Over-complicated. Too many puzzles to solve- lighting, blinds, coffee machines, lifts. Windows don’t open. Uncomfortable bed. Drab decor. Charged to use pool. Fussy and pretentious. I guess hotels aren’t for me, but this one really sucks.

We spent 4 nights at the hotel. Upon arrival no one was available to help with luggage, although at other times there was a bellman out front to at least get people and luggage into the hotel. Our “suite” was a disappointment, as the added “living” area was cut in half with huge post, and not cozy or inviting. No luggage racks in the room. We asked for two, one came broken and unusable. Only on the second night did we get a 2nd luggage rack. Huge bathtub, no salts. We asked for them, and were left 2 tiny packages. There were almost no bath amenities. We had to ask for shower caps. Dirty glasses were not picked up and replaced. No washcloths. The bright spot is the restaurant and the breakfast buffet. Fabulous. And a dinner there was very nice. It’s a great space and well staffed.
