Opened in February 2020, The Social House in Nairobi, Kenya, is a future-oriented and fresh property so tech-savvy that it's the first hotel on the African continent without a reception desk. Yes – you can check in, access your room, and order a post-check-in pick-me-up all from your smartphone. Great for business travelers, busy families, or solo explorers, The Social House mixes a melting pot of Kenyan culture with an equally vibrant array of activities.
If you're planning a party, destination wedding, or other event, the hotel's event spaces can cater anything from an intimate conference to a 100-person cocktail reception, while the onsite wedding planner and free flower service round out the hotel's event amenities.
The 83 rooms and suites of the property are based around The Social House's ethos in three S's - simple, stylish, and smart.
You'll see these three S's at work in the easy-to-understand nature of the room and its tech amenities. Order room service, book a restaurant reservation, or control your room's temperature all with a few taps on your TV. The property's own app also provides Smartphone room access, staff interaction, hotel messages, and more.
Rooms are designed with contemporary African décor featuring staid neutral tones offset by unexpected pops of color that evoke the feeling of seeing one of the Big Five slipping through the savanna grass of Nairobi National Park.
Whether it's a simple cup of coffee from The Living Room or a decadent wedding reception held in The Other Room, the hotel's four food venues provide enough options to satisfy even the most discerning diners.
Set off on safari or simply sink back into the soft furnishings of the terrace for a relaxed chat with other travelers or to enjoy an afternoon performance. After all, you're at The Social House, where cosmopolitan comradery is created through an ever-changing line-up of cultural events, concerts, and other pleasant pop-ups.
If rest and relaxation are your preference, the outdoor pool, gym, and quiet room provide space to decompress and destress. Those seeking more excitement can head downtown for traditional Kenyan food, historical sites, shopping, and museums including the Nairobi National Museum; and the Bomas of Kenya, an open-air museum with traditional tribal villages, crafts, music, and art.
