The Cool Kyoto Tokyu Hotel

Tue Jul 08 2025 12:05:58 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time) by ApurvNagpal

The Kyoto Tokyu Hotel is gorgeous, especially design wise & spaciousness of the rooms. It gets(literally)busloads of tourists- which means the helpful staff is permanently stretched or, as we discovered at night, both their restaurants were fully booked. There's a very convenient shuttle bus to & from the hotel for the train station. A number of shrines surround the hotel.

Average Hotel

We stayed here for two nights as part of a tour group. The hotel is about 10 minutes by car from the lovely Kyoto station. The hotel offers a shuttle bus on a regular schedule in both directions or you can take a short cab ride. The rooms were average, the gym is OK for a quick workout. The WiFi was fine. The breakfast was also fine.

tucked out of the way

The so-called atmosphere of quiet composure communicating a sense of calm and relaxation certainly evaporated at breakfast time. The breakfast was of a high standard and varied but with long queues. Overall, a pleasant hotel and helpful staff but with so many large tour groups it felt overcrowded and not peaceful. It is about a 25-minute walk to the station and downtown, but there is a hotel shuttle which runs regularly. Our bathroom was small with a step up and as I have seen described before, resembling a cruise ship bathroom.

Nice

I guess it is impossible to leave an average, not to mention bad, review in this Guesthouse. We booked a private room - traditional style with views to a cute little Japanese garden and shared bathroom. Everything was like on the pictures and as described. The highlight of the stay are the owners - honestly, these people are like angels: friendly, sweet, smiley, patient, just LOVELY. Mama was quick to answer all our questions (before and during our trip) and took care of a reservation in an amazing fish restaurant that we loved. Papa prepared a beautiful souvenirs from our stay with them. It isn’t a luxury place so if you look for it - it isn’t for you. It is place for beautiful souls looking to share beautiful moments with the hosts and the other guests. It felt like being at home :)

Nice, but room lay-out needs improvement

We were there while on an ADJ tour. The hotel is a very nice facility, and the breakfast buffet is excellent. However, the room we had was poorly laid-out, with the clothing cabinet across from the bathroom door. They should move that cabinet to the right corner, where they now have a TV, then put the TV over the mirror. That simple change would make such rooms far better.
