This was an excellent experience with wonderfully engaging staff and service and a very comfortable, enjoyable stay. The room was well appointed. The location is superb. It was walkable to so many sites and easy tube station access. I will most certainly look to stay at this hotel again.

We have stayed at the Stafford many times over the years as we enjoy the quality, attentive staff and traditional ambiance. We were greeted by name at the door-they recognised us from the car number plate as we had booked valet-parking! Check in took 2 minutes , we were uprgraded to a deluxe king room( thank you the Stafford) and our bags were brought up 2 minutes later. The bathroom is marble with underfloor heating, rooms are serviced twice per day with bottled water left at your bedside. Robes and slippers are provided and the towels are very fluffy. We like the quiet location in St James with much of London within walking distance. We enjoyed drinks in the atmospheric American Bar( which was busy on both of the early-evenings we were there). The Whisky Sour is excellent, the Chablis nicely chilled and the service is friendly and attentive. They bring nibbles with the drinks. Breakfast service is also attentive where you are escorted to your table with coffee, juice, etc. served straight away. The breakfast menu has something for everyone-we particularly enjoyed the Eggs Benedict, Full English and poached eggs. It is great to see black pudding still on the menu, so I enjoyed it both days we were there. On departure checkout took no time and our car was brought to the front door within a few minutes. The gentleman gave us a friendly goodbye and provided bottled water for our journey. If you like corporate & concrete do not come to the Stafford, but if you like quality, tradition , history, comfort and friendly service-the Stafford is your place. We will return! I was greatly looking forward to my stay at the Stafford. Most of the stay was fine, but the big detraction from the experience was the slow (really slow) breakfast service. It took a good 15 minutes just to get served coffee, and then another 15-20 for main course. There was no buffet so we were at the mercy of the wait staff, who seemed very busy talking among themselves but not offering much service to guests. The food, once served, was quite good. The American Bar dining was much better, though again, it took a while to get the attention of wait staff. In-room breakfast was also painfully slow and delivered late, so that's not a great option either. The after-dinner main bar was quite nice though wine by the glass was very limited and way overpriced. The room was serviceable, though remarkably, very inaccessible. A step down was needed to get to the bathroom, and no one in their right mind would go into the tub, which was 2 feet below the level of the floor. Shower stall also had some precarious aspects with yet another step down, though not quite as scary as the tub. The staff were generally friendly, and the property is clean and well-maintained. But if you need to get out in the morning in a hurry, this is not the place to stay.

We have been there four times. The location is ideal. The staff is flawless. The rooms are beautiful- and comfortable. The restaurant serves a terrific breakfast and a a wonderful dinner. The American Bar is both American and very British- living history and lively casual food. Only a few steps from St James’s Palace, here everyone is treated royally- and as family. In the past, we have stayed at the Connaught, Claridge’s, the Four Seasons, and Brown’s. This is now home we are in London. We would not stay anywhere else.
