Careful with the ocean view room

Tue Aug 19 2025 01:53:28 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time) by JP S

I just arrived at this hotel for a 6-night stay. I booked an 'ocean view' room. Here's what I see from my room. The front desk person, rather than being honest, insisted that the ocean view refers to what you see from the balcony... You can imagine the disappointment, especially since, in that case, the ocean view from the balcony would be the same from all rooms, given that the hotel is perpendicular to the ocean...

Good location. Not much more.

Carpet old needs replacing. Balcony door would not lock. Can’t deny location is great. Main strip and beach right outside the entrance.

Most overrated resort in Oahu!

Fri Aug 15 2025 20:00:39 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time) by Dami F

We had initially booked through our travel rewards credit card, but we cancelled and booked direct through the hotel to take advantage of the “Elevate your stay package” with an ocean view room, which actually cost us quite a bit more. Turns out this package is a total sham. They put us in their smaller, shabbier tower on a pretty low floor. Our room was not even in the same tower where all of the “elevate your stay” amenities that we paid extra for were. The room needed updating and smelled musty. The sofa in our room was also very dirty. What they sold us as an ocean view room was actually a partial ocean view, cause the room actually faced a side street. Additionally, the longboard club was a joke. It was buffet style food that was extremely average and the outdoor area of the lounge just had cabanas that you couldn’t access and no pool, despite them making strategic efforts to obsfucate this fact in their advertising . In order to get seating and loungers at the beach, you had to walk several blocks to go rent them, then schlep them everywhere, which got very heavy and uncomfortable in the heat. There is absolutely no service on the beach. The hotel is barely even on the beach. My husband and I made several attempts to reach the staff at the spa to schedule a birthday spa day to no avail. They eventually called our room two days later in response to our voicemails after we had booked at a different hotel. Finally, I would say the staff were moderately polite, but not helpful. I have concerns about whether they wash the reusable water bottles. On our first night, we accidentally returned our empty bottles, because we expected the cleaning staff would put fresh bottles in our room. When they didn’t, we requested fresh bottles of water from the front desk and the staff told us to grab some bottles off of the return shelves and refill them. I was in complete shock, because these were used bottles returned by other guests and they had not been removed for cleaning. In summary, worst birthday trip and not worth the money we spent there.

Not for Traveling on Special Occassion

Fri Aug 15 2025 13:39:31 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time) by Josh S

My wife and I visited Alohilani for six nights on our honeymoon. The hotel was very nice - you're greeted inside by a large aquarium, and the staff at reception, parking/valet are very friendly. We enjoyed our room on the seventh floor with an east-facing patio. The pool was small and very crowded in the afternoon, and the chair availability runs out quickly, but we still enjoyed looking out of the infinity pool towards the ocean and good angle towards the sunset. We had lots of tasty frozen cocktails by the pool, and the food is decent. Expect high prices, but not outside the norm of other hotels and restaurants in Wakiki and Oahu overall. The TV options are limited compared with our other hotel stays. You can Google-cast Netflix, Hulu, and some other non-mainstream services, but Max, Prime, and other streaming sites are not supported. On Demand is about $22 per movie. Our note for would-be travelers enjoying a special occasion is that my wife and I did not receive any acknowledgement of our honeymoon from the hotel or staff after we got to the hotel. When asked if we were traveling on for a special occasion when I booked the hotel four months prior, I exchanged emails confirming our honeymoon, and received responses congratulating us. We arrived at the hotel and did not receive any acknowledgement of our special visit from the reception staff. On our fifth day, I asked the reception staff if they had a note that we were on our honeymoon in our reservation, which they confirmed, yet they still made no effort to make this a special visit or get to know us. As my wife who worked in hotel guest experience for 10 years said, they did not do anything to "surprise and delight." We were surprised, coming to a five-star hotel, that there were no personal touches to our trip after several confirmations of our honeymoon. I wondered why we were asked ahead of time and why the note was made to our reservation. If you are going to travel on a special occasion of your own, consider other options if you want a more personalized and unique experience.
