What one can say of Tokyo's iconic hotel? Immersed in its own park in the middle of the town, close to the Imperial Palace. Top level rooms with astonishing views. A wide choice of restaurants, bars and shops. Efficiency and kindness at its best. And a perfect Japanese garden.

We booked a deluxe double king room in the Executive House Zen floors of the New Otani using AMEX Plat and was upgraded to an executive king suite! The suite was truly lovely and really a perfect place to end the night. We also had access to the executive lounge and that also was quite a treat. The menu in the lounge changed 3 times a day so no matter the time of day, we were able to have a tasty treat -- we usually ended the night with a glass of champagne to celebrate the day. The morning breakfast buffet in the main dining room was incredible with so many choices, both traditional Japanese as well as more typical American breakfast choices. The grounds are also spectacular with a beautiful zen garden and waterfall. The best thing about the hotel, however, was the impeccable service of the staff. On what was supposed to be our last day of our stay, I fell ill (an unfortunate bout of food poisoning likely from a dish at Tsukiji!). The staff graciously extended our stay for another night without needing to change rooms since I was ill. They also called the next hotel we were supposed to be checking into to let them know I was sick and could not make it until the following day. That hotel usually charges a 100% cancellation fee given same day cancellation but because the New Otani staff explained the situation, the next hotel only charged us a 50% fee which we were pretty happy about. Altogether, this was a wonderful stay at a truly beautiful hotel. One thing to note is that this hotel is not close to any subway stations -- it's approximately an 11 minute walk and depending on the route you take back to the hotel, the walk includes a slight hill (but, if you cut through the New Otani Garden lobby, you can skip the hill altogether.

As soon as you walk in, you’re welcomed by a super professional and friendly team. The rooms have everything you could need, and the décor is beautiful. There are so many restaurants to choose from—it was hard to pick! But every place we tried had really delicious food. The buffet was also great, with tons of variety. Overall, an awesome stay!

The level of service at this hotel is absolutely fantastic. There is a staff at the lounge dedicated to the Executive House all the time (at least every time I was there). The lounge itself is great - food and beverages all day long and to 10 at night. I was traveling with someone who went to sleep earlier than I, and it was really nice to have a place to read a book. The breakfast buffet is large, varied and tasty. The omelettes are classic French style. Since we booked through our Platinum Amex benefit, the breakfast buffet was included. We used our $100 food and beverage credit at the attached bakery for some delicious macarons and shortbread. Two examples of the service level - first, when we were going out for fancy sushi, the staff member gave the driver a card with the address of the restaurant, and also gave US two cards to use for our return taxi - one in Japanese to give to the cab driver and one in English for us. Second, and even more impressive - we shipped skis to the hotel from Sapporo using Yamato Transport. The hotel said they would be happy to keep the skis for us while we were visiting Kyoto. Anyway, they weren’t at the New Otani when we arrived. The Executive House Zen staff tracked down the skis and then (with our consent) had them shipped directly to the airport, where they were waiting for us on our departure. It was so smooth and seamless that we aren’t entirely sure that the skis went astray, but we think they did, as Yamato then sent them to the airport without charging us more. The hotel is large, and the grounds are large, so it is a bit of a walk to the subway. If you use cabs they are always waiting, so that’s no problem. And it wasn’t a problem for us to walk to the subway, but it’s not right there. Anyway, a really, really excellent experience. I have never had such a great staff at a hotel. We had a great time, and we whole-heartedly recommend the hotel.

We had an excellent stay at this hotel on the executive floor. The service was great. It was wonderful being able to have breakfast in a smaller non crowded environment with a great selection of quality food. The bed was really comfortable and I appreciated the pillow options. The shower had excellent pressure. The room has everything you would need. Given that the closet is very small, if I were staying more than three nights I would book the premium room on this floor. Personally, I would not stay in the larger part of the hotel but that is just my preference. Thank you again for a great stay!
