24 hour stay for work. The hotel itself is beautiful and absolutely lives up to its name. Location is perfect for anyone commuting in by train, as well being well located for all the main attractions in York. Breakfast was great and plentiful. The front of house and restaurant staff group struck me as being a bit inexperienced, but friendly and welcoming. There were no issues during our stay. The only reason for knocking a rating off was the over powering Molton Brown fragrances everywhere. I love Molton Brown products, but the only thing I can describe it as, was a miasma of scent as you walk through everywhere. It was a relief to go outside after being cooped up in it for several long meetings.

There are a lot of positives about this hotel. The rooms are gorgeous - spacious, beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. The building itself is stunning and we enjoyed drinks and lunch in the bar a couple of times. The Legacy restaurant was the highlight of our weekend in York. The food is excellent and the staff outstanding. We also loved the location. However, we were disappointed with a number of aspects: - As a number of people have mentioned, some of the reception staff are quite difficult and a bit rude. - We arrived early and left our bags with concierge whilst we had lunch. We were assured our bags would be taken to our room but after checking in and waiting an hour, only two bags arrived. One went missing and was fortunately located but it meant we had to rush to get ready for dinner. - When we booked there was no information on the website about the spa closure. We were contacted a few weeks later and told but were informed the rate would still be the same. I’m not sure how any hotel can charge the same rate when it doesn’t have a spa? By this point all the other good hotels in York were fully booked so we had no choice but to keep the booking. - We had to queue for more than 20 mins to check out. Just not what you expect at a 5* hotel. I don’t think at any point any members of staff apologised. Overall, I probably wouldn’t recommend the hotel until the prices reflect the facilities and the areas for improvement are addressed.

Our experience didn't start off particularly well, we were double charged when booking, when we arrived check in was efficient but a personal comment was made about me that I believe was intended as joke but I didnt feel it was appropriate, then when we arrived in our room the champagne that should have been there wasn't, I was expecting more of a seating area and the tv was not working. I usually don't complain but as there had been a number of things that were not up to scratch, it was a special occasion and it wasn't cheap I did. Amelia was wonderful at addressing our concerns and went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. The room we were moved to was stunning. I cannot fault it in any way. The bed was comfy and cosy. Staff were friendly and attentive and breakfast was tasty with a large selection of hot food and continental food. The decor was beautiful and the cleanliness was spot on, the turn down service was an unexpected touch.

Absolutely stunning hotel with wonderful staff! We were greeted at the door where our luggage was taken by the staff to deliver to the room. When we arrived at the room there was a bottle of prosecco in a bucket of ice waiting as it was our anniversary. The room was luxurious and spacious and the bed was perfect. We will definitely be staying here again.
