Step into the gleaming lobby of Hotel New Grand — with soaring ceilings, wood paneling, and candle-lit chandeliers – and enter through a passage of time. Originally built in 1927 and frequented by Charlie Chaplin, Babe Ruth, and General MacArthur, the hotel continues to impress with Art Deco flourishes, a tiled staircase, and velour couches. Feel welcomed by impeccable Japanese hospitality and dine with distinction at the classic French restaurant inspired by a legendary cruise ship. This landmark gem is a gateway to the former fishing village of Yokohama, one of the first Japanese ports open to foreign trade.
Rich history meets contemporary luxury at The Hotel New Grand. Stay in the same suite where General MacArthur worked, or book a room in the modern Tower famous for its views of the glittering harbor.
The 238 classically elegant guestrooms and suites are spread out between the historic Main Building — from 1927 — and a modern Tower — from 1991 — and feature a range of amenities and luxuries, including fine linens, spacious bathrooms, and waffle-knit nightgowns. For a view of the harbor and complimentary drinks at the executive lounge, choose an Upper Tower room.
Ironing and laundry services can be arranged through the concierge, and you can enjoy an American breakfast or traditional sushi in your own room thanks to the extensive room service offerings. For those on business, the hotel offers several meeting spaces that can accommodate large groups. Four banquet halls serve as impressive spaces for special events.
From Italian classics like spaghetti to French-inspired cheese boards and specialties from Kyoto, Hotel New Grand delivers a rich European and Japanese-influenced dining experience throughout your stay.
Relax your body and mind at the Oasis massage salon, or visit the Esthetics salon for a rejuvenating treatment. Browse the hotel shops for a souvenir or gift and take a walk around the historic hotel and admire the artful design.
Outside the hotel, you are in the heart of Yokohama. Skywalk over Yokohama Bay Bridge, ride the ferris wheel at Cosmo World or go shopping at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse. For a change of pace, pay a visit the Sankeien Garden or Sojiji Temple, or spend a lazy afternoon lingering in the nearby Yamashita Park.
Right near the waterfront, Hotel New Grand has a convenient location with easy access to dining options and major attractions such as the Yokohama Landmark Tower. Yokohama’s Chinatown is a five-minute walk away and popular shopping centers such as the Red Brick Warehouse are nearby.

This is one of the nice hotels which provide spacious rooms and high standard of service that I encounter in Japan. The location is great as it locates near various tourist spots. Everything in the hotel keeps neat and tidy. The staff are always ready to help and friendly. I appreciate that the hotel set up a little gallery on G/F to demonstrate its long history and the exhibits are worth viewing! We enjoy our stay here:)

We had a fourth floor room overlooking the bay, which could not have been better. Any imperfections within the classic nature of the room were almost charming in a way. The walls were thick and we never heard the elevator nearby. Everything was first class and of course the hotel lobby and public spaces were classic rarity in Japan.

Just had a very good stay at this lovely Hotel. Close to the cruise terminal and perfectly situated opposite the Gundam factory and the vintage liner . We could see both from our room. We had bed and breakfast and the breakfast is in the magnificent Normandy restaurant. Very enjoyable and elegant. The café in the hotel is certainly worth eating at and is very popular. Our room was large and well fitted, but in need of refurbishment. Insufficient USB points, and a message that you could easily overload the system if you use a kettle and hairdryer at the same time! But what a magnificent historic building this is with wonderful displays of its history throughout. Staff throughout are attentive and charming. We did have one problem on our last day concerning out included breakfast. There was a huge queue and we didn’t have time because of our trip to the airport. Room service was provided instead, but it’s worth checking in advance if you need to book for breakfast and to make sure they can accommodate you if you have a flight. We would definitely stay here again. It is our hotel of choice in Yokohama. Some lovely shops nearby and of course a few seconds from Chinatown.
