Beyond the fact that Hotel Monteleone is a legendary hideaway for some of the world’s most influential authors, it serves cocktails in one of Condé Nast Traveler’s top three Big Easy bars and offers rooms that perfectly blend old and new. Opened in 1886 on Royal Street in the French Quarter, the Monteleone family-owned hotel has a rich heritage that will intrigue and delight as you walk into its grand foyer, champagne in hand, up the chandelier-lit lobby towards your well-appointed guestroom. This AAA Four Diamond hotel serves as an illustrious destination for relaxing, indulging, and exploring.
Walk in the footsteps of literary greats like Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, and William Faulkner, who were frequent patrons of the Hotel Monteleone and even wrote it into some of their best-known works. Order Hemingway’s favorite at the revolving bar, which has been pouring drinks since 1949, then head to the stunning rooftop where you can relax in a heated pool or soak up breathtaking views of the Mississippi River.
Choose from 522 elegant guestrooms, including 55 suites, at the Hotel Monteleone, with high ceilings, crown molding, and views of the Mississippi River or the French Quarter. The luxury suites offer extra comforts such as overstuffed king-size beds, parlors, marble, and granite bathrooms, and private Jacuzzis. The hotel has been appointed as a prestigious Literary Landmark — only one of three U.S. hotels to hold this distinction. It has book-themed touches throughout, including Literary Suites decorated in the style of prominent writers who once stayed at the hotel. The two-bedroom Ernest Hemingway Penthouse, which is located in an area of the hotel that housed Union soldiers during the Civil War, features elegant dual balconies with panoramic views.
Whether you want a pet-friendly room, access to the 24-hour business center, or advice on exploring the city, hotel staff are ready and waiting to accommodate your every need.
Ask the bow-tied bartenders to mix one of their potent signature concoctions while you take a spin at Hemingway’s favorite hangout. Then enjoy modern Creole cuisine — a rite of passage in the South — and live tunes at Hotel Monteleone’s Criollo Restaurant.
All the color and character of New Orleans can be found at the Hotel Monteleone, whether you want to relax in a rooftop cabana, take a dip in the heated pool, soak in a private jacuzzi, or book a spa treatment at Spa Aria. Wake up to a workout with views over Crescent City in its state-of-the-art fitness center, or round off a perfect day with a cocktail at the famous revolving bar.
Outside the hotel, the city’s highlights are within easy reach. Hop aboard the Creole Queen River Boat and enjoy a Mississippi jazz cruise at sunset, or explore Louisiana's swampy backcountry. If you would rather keep your feet on firm ground, head into the heart of New Orleans to find candy-colored houses with wrought-iron balconies, fragrant spices, and jazz music on every corner.
Hotel Monteleone puts you right in the heart of the action in New Orleans’ atmospheric French Quarter, just steps from Jackson Square, Bourbon Street, the French Market, and the Riverwalk, where you can watch steamboats glide along the Mississippi River. For a collegiate trip, Tulane University, Loyola University New Orleans, and the University of New Orleans are all about 15 minutes away by car.

Earl the pool operator and Trevor the bartender were exceptional. They went above and beyond to make our experience at the rooftop pool wonderful. The hotel is centrally located making it an ideal place to stay while touring the French Quarter

The good. This is a very nice hotel. The atmosphere is great and staff was friendly. The rooms are accommodating and bed comfortable. The bad I request my receipt to be email and wasn’t sent. I called and requested it once more and still not sent. Both times my email address was verified as the same they sent all the communication before the stay. If you need a receipt request one before leaving.

Cool place, but so noisy! Family of 4 adults, two rooms for a week in March. Location is so good and New Orleans is such a cool place but… hotel lobby is full of drunk and very loud people! Hotel staff, including security, do not see it as their responsibility. People shouting at each other would be an arrestable offence in most parts of the world, not here! Just the norm. So, if you like noise, if you like stress, this is your place, btw, we upgraded to a suite because there was only one bedside table . Hotel staff said this was the norm in these ‘ superior ‘ rooms. But, the hotel location is so good, the bar is good. People coming in from the street with no control, old and tired rooms and only one bedside table! not good, speaks volumes!

Earl the pool operator was amazing. He was funny, professional, and attentive to our needs and there was 8 of us. The pool area was clean and we appreciated being able to relax before our flight home. The hotel itself was great. I highly recommend it - if you are ever in NOLA.

Agree with other reviews adding a thank you to the courteous staff, detail focused "housekeepers" and the wonderfully attentive doormen who listened well to concerns about safety or preferences and sent us off with directions & information accordingly. All the best of local representatives.
