Absolutely amazing experience…. The room was one of the best we have stayed in, the food was off the charts, and the staff were great. The overall Spa Services / Experience are impressive. The property is beautiful and it’s almost impossible not to be at peace when walking around. We will definitely go back.

We prepaid for dog friendly room with doors that opened to ground floor making it easier for my ADA family. Upon arrival, we were told accessible accommodations we paid for were not available. We expected much more from a highly rated resort. Spend your hard earned money somewhere where they care more about people than giving rooms away to others with less need. My wife celebrating her 70th birthday deserved much better — and received just that at a Hilton down the road.

My friend and I did a girls weekend trip during the week under the “midweek escape” offer. The terms of the offer to “enjoy a bottle of Virginia wine upon arrival.” Unfortunately, this was the downside of our trip. Upon checking in we were both told (we had separate rooms and arrived at different times) the wine would be delivered to our room that evening. That did not happen. We inquired the next day and were told the wine is usually delivered during turndown service. We received an apology and were told it would be delivered. Again, no wine. Day 3 (the day before our departure), we asked about the missing wine again. We received another apology and the wine was finally delivered later that day. Unfortunately, it was too late for us to enjoy as we envisioned. I had a problem with my remote. Although I contacted the front desk, I never received any assistance. Fortunately, there was a tv in the bathroom that had a remote that I discovered would control the main tv. Yes, there is a tv in the bathroom that you can watch while getting ready. Or, while you are taking a leisurely bath. Having said all that, it was still a lovely trip. The rooms are a nice size with multiple sitting options beside the bed. As mentioned earlier, there is evening turndown service and it includes a sweet treat left bedside. The bathroom amenities were luxurious. A bathrobe and slippers are also in the room. The room also had complimentary cartons of water that were replenished daily. We had dinner at Harriman’s. We wanted something that was not on the menu. The waiter accommodated our request with no problem. Service was attentive without being intrusive. The food was delicious. It was not an inexpensive meal but it was well worth the treat. We also had drinks and a meal at the wine bar both of which were satisfactory. We enjoyed using the complimentary ride service in their chauffeured Audi vehicles to go into town on two occasions. We also utilized the spa services which were absolutely divine. All said, the good outweighed the bad and we are already planning a return visit.

I agree with all of the nice reviews. The service was excellent, the spa pool was lovely, and our meals at the Gold Cup Wine Bar and Harriman's were delicious. However, I was surprised at just how dog-friendly this resort is. Dogs were everywhere - on the lawns, in the lobby, in the library area. At one point on Saturday night there was a dog running around with no owner. If you are at all allergic or do not care for dogs being a part of your vacation, just be aware and maybe choose somewhere else. Otherwise, this is a wonderful resort with top-notch service.

We’ve been visiting the Salamander Resort for the past six years, and each stay is a uniquely enriching experience. Every visit offers something new, yet consistently delivers excellence. The cuisine is absolutely phenomenal, and the range of activities available is not to be missed—they’re an essential part of what makes each trip so memorable.
