Fornelli – Start the day with a buffet breakfast at the hotel’s sleek trattoria restaurant, which serves modern Italian cuisine with creative Mediterranean touches. When it comes to lunch or dinner, the chef’s ingenuity really shines through with dishes such as pan-fried duck with honey-glazed pumpkin and Cointreau sauce. The burgers are mouth-watering, and the pulled pork sandwich with caramelized onions, pickled red cabbage, and smoked cheddar is a must-try.
Sample authentic Maltese cuisine at Gululu Restaurant in Spinola Bay, where home-style favorites such as aljotta (fish soup) and rabbit stew are served in a relaxed setting. For seafood, The Barracuda in Balluta Bay can’t be beaten when it comes to location: a grand 18th-century villa on the edge of the water. The food’s incredible, too, so book ahead for a table on the terrace and keep your eyes peeled for celebrities.
Swim laps in the rooftop pool, or work up a sweat in the fitness center. You don’t have to venture far for entertainment — the hotel is adjacent to a retail and dining complex with a casino, cinema, and bowling alley.
Balluta Bay is the place for watersports, and boat charters can be arranged from the Portomaso Marina. Come nightfall, dress up for the iconic 19th-century Villa Dragonara casino that has incredible views from St. George’s Bay headland.
When you’ve enjoyed all of St. Julian’s, take a day trip to see the rest of Malta:
- Wander the living museum of tiny 16th-century Valletta, Malta’s capital, packed with grand palaces and cathedrals
- Take your camera to the spectacular clifftop temples of Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra, one of the world’s oldest religious sites
- Get in some diving and snorkeling on Gozo and Comino islands —
especially in Comino’s famed Blue Lagoon
- Explore the ancient Mdina, the fortified hilltop city with labyrinthine cobbled streets, churches, palaces, and museums

It’s two minutes from St. George’s Bay for lazy days on the beach, or you can follow the seafront promenade for 15 minutes or so to Spinola Bay, where cafés and restaurants overlook a picturesque harbor. Balluta Bay also has a small sandy beach and a peaceful shaded piazza for a lingering lunch.
