ECPAT is a global network of civil society organisations that works to end the sexual exploitation of children. It focuses on halting the online sexual exploitation of children, the trafficking of children for sexual purposes and the sexual exploitation of children in the travel and tourism industry. The ECPAT network developed The Code with the help of the travel industry. The Code (short for The Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism) is an industry-driven initiative with the mission to provide awareness, tools, and support to the tourism industry to prevent the sexual exploitation of children.
In September 2015, Preferred Hotels & Resorts announced a partnership with Love146, an international human rights organization working to end child trafficking and exploitation through survivor care and prevention. The trafficking and exploitation of children is one of the darkest stories and most severe human rights abuses imaginable. The hope of ending it is a reality and Love146 believes in the power of love and its ability to effect sustainable change. Preferred Hotels & Resorts kicked off the partnership by making a significant donation to Love146 and has committed to implement training programs for associates and member hotels around the world to help grow the movement to end child trafficking.
Wine To Water is a non-profit organization committed to supporting life and dignity for all through the power of clean water. The organization was founded by Doc Hendley in 2007.
663 million people around the world struggle for their lives as they live without access to clean water. Every 90 seconds, a child dies as a result of water-borne diseases. Wine To Water is committed to serving in the community to provide water for those in need.
Preferred Hotels & Resorts has a strong partnership with American Red Cross, an organization that provides a quick response to areas that have been stricken by tragedy or natural disaster. American Red Cross has a dedicated microsite for Preferred Hotels & Resorts that enables the safe, effective, and streamlined transmission of donations and contributions to disaster areas.
Past partnerships include a campaign to aid the relief efforts in Japan for those affected by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The company partnered with 190 member hotels to donate more than 800 room nights, with 100% of the proceeds from the sale donated to the American Red Cross disaster relief efforts. In total, Preferred Hotels & Resorts' Check In for Japan campaign raised more than $100,000.
Founded in 2009 in Orlando, Florida, Clean the World delivers on its mission of collecting soaps and shampoo products that have been discarded by hospitality properties and disseminating these products to those in need around the world, from homeless shelters to developing countries and beyond. Their aim is to alleviate preventable disease through their distribution efforts.
Since its founding, Clean the World has collected more than 22 million bars of soap and distributed them to over 96 countries.
NOW is an online portal designed to make it easier for travellers to identify and book sustainable properties around the world as well as providing discussion, research, innovations and inspiration on how to travel with a conscience and leave the lowest carbon footprint possible.
Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ partnership with NOW will enable hotels to access the EarthCheck accredited sustainability program with certification, as well as accessing the NOW Track & Book tool. Our customers may identify member hotels as a sustainable property by locating the NOW booking widget on our website which links directly to the hotels track and book page – showing the hotels sustainability efforts.
