Historic Hotspots In the Heart of the City

Dom Luís I Bridge: This beautiful, double-decker metal bridge connects Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia from its upper deck, and the two banks of the Douro River from its bottom deck. Head to the upper level for stunning city and sea views, and use the lower level for a quick trip to the Gaia wine cellars.

Ribeira Square: Porto’s famed waterside promenade is a bustling UNESCO World Heritage Site known for cozy eateries, bars, shops, and spectacular city views. This is also the best spot to hop on a boat tour of the Douro to get up close and personal with its many famous bridges.

Clérigos Church and Tower: Known for its bell tower, this Baroque church is an iconic symbol in the city. Take a trek up the tower’s stone stairs (there’s more than 200 steps) to be rewarded with 360-degree views of the cityscape. You’ll also have a chance to check out the beautiful interior of the church, home to an organ that is frequently in use. Insider tip: We suggest showing up early to beat the crowds.
