Heineken Experience: Learn more about one of the world’s best known beers at this interactive attraction. Take a self-guided tour for a close up look at the brewing process and “become” a beer, getting shaken, heated up, and even sprayed with water. After that…you deserve a cold one, right? This is a popular spot, so visit early and buy tickets online in advance to skip the wait.

Anne Frank House: De Pijp is a great location for day tripping to museums, but this carefully preserved piece of history is surely one of the most poignant. Explore the space where Anne and her family hid during the German occupation in WW II, including the office spaces below which have been reconstructed to look as they did in the 1940s. Over a million people visit a year, so plan to visit late afternoon or early evening to avoid the crowds, and purchase tickets online.

The Nine Streets: We adore strolling this quaint and quirky ‘hood – so photogenic that it’s the star of our Insta feed. Named for the nine side streets that straddle the city’s famed canals, it’s practically bursting with cool shops and cafés. More than a few vintage and designer finds made their way into our luggage.

Albert Cuyp Market: Another Amsterdam “must” is the largest day market in Europe, with over 300 open-air stalls of food, flowers, souvenirs, and clothing to peruse. Grab a coffee and a stroofwafel, a traditional treat that’s a caramelly cross between a waffle and a cookie, or pick up fruit, gorgeous Dutch cheeses, and bread, and picnic in nearby Sarphatipark. This is a favorite with locals, and it’s perfect for people watching, or just enjoying a peaceful break in a charming green space. Even better – it’s next to the hotel.
