A vast city of temples, striking Victorian architecture, green spaces, and good food. Head to the city of Bangalore to mix with the locals in quirky cafés, shop in comfort at boutiques and independent stalls, and sample new dishes.
Known as the Green City, locals and visitors alike flock to the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens and Cubbon Park. Spread over 98 hectares of landscaped terrain, the botanical gardens were laid out in 1760, meaning you can see centuries-old trees as well as diverse species of plants and bonsai. In the early mornings, you can hear a beautiful bird chorus. Cubbon Park is home to the State Central Library, a gorgeous, red gothic building.
Traditional urban India is best presented by Krishnarajendra Market and the exciting commercial streets that surround it. Weave in and out of the stalls to see local, fresh produce, piles of colorful dyes, spices, and copper ware. Don’t miss the vibrant flower market in the center.
After a day at the market, Bangalore’s Opera House is a magnificent space to visit. It has been transformed, yet sensitively renovated, with an elegant curved balcony and a stage framed by classical columns. Sit back and relax in its café and book the home-theatre zone to watch a film or see a show.
